APPLICATIONS:

Application for OU Characters:

Application for AU Characters:

QUICK QUESTIONS:

What is the difference between AU and OU?
An OU (Original Universe) character is strictly canon without any alterations. An AU (Alternate Universe) character comes from a player-created alternate reality.

What are the stipulations for applying for characters?
  • You cannot play both the AU and OU versions of any one character.

  • There can only be one AU version of any given character.

  • All AUs will be judged on an individual basis. They can be rejected for subject matter and feasibility. An AU character must still have the personality of their OU counterparts and be recognizable as such.

Why does the OU app only ask for a link to history?
OU characters do NOT require a player-created history section. You are free to link to a suitable overview of your canon, i.e. Wikipedia.

What about the histories for AU characters?
If your history is a CANON AU (like Marvel Ultimates), a link will also suffice.

Do I have to complete a full application for other characters if I'm already in the game?
Every new player must submit a full, complete app for their first character. Subsequent applications after that will ONLY consist of a 3rd person RP sample and how their AU differs from canon, if they are an AU character.

What goes into strengths and weaknesses? Eye lasers?
The strengths and weaknesses sections are for listing physical AND mental strengths and weaknesses. Please give us your characters' powers (if any). These sections should be at least 25-50 words each.

EMAIL ALL COMPLETED APPS TO POSTHUMANSMODSATGMAILDOTCOM.
Put your character's name and fandom (i.e. Tony Stark from Marvel (OU)) in the subject line.

The canon AU I take Tim Drake (Talon) from is Earth 3, the Crime Society (as seen in Countdown), where people's alignments and, to a degree, their personalities are inverted. It is arguable whether Talon is still recognizable as Tim Drake (though I can certainly make the case in the application). Is this still allowable?

[identity profile] posthumansmods.livejournal.com 2010-05-16 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! We only ask that the character is recognizable, as we feel that otherwise it's the character in name and name alone. All AUs are judged on a case by case basis, but we will be judging by the strength of the app. So, you are more than welcome to app for him!

this is zippy, i am too lazy to swap accounts lol

I am really confused about something.

How are characters from CANON universes like Marvel Ultimates and MA:A considered AU when the quick questions up there specify and OU is anything in a published canon, and the AU's are PLAYER CREATED.

Ultimate Marvel isn't player created, it's a published Marvel canon, so why do those characters count as AU just because they aren't part of the main 616 timeline?

The way it's explained on this page makes it sound like there can be as many canon versions of a character in game as exist in canon publications, plus one player created AU version - which is perfectly fine and I'm awesome with that, but it doesn't mesh with how characters are being labelled right now or with what I've been told from a mod about canon vs AU.

I am just... really lost and would appreciate some clarification on what is canon and what isn't and why certain canons are being favoured as 'original' over others currently. It's not making a lot of sense to me. :/

less lazy now

also it's come to my attention that my icon up there makes my post sound angry when I'm not, just confused. Please have this fluffy bunny to assure you that I am not upset, just confuzzled and that I thank you for whatever time you may take in answering my annoying queries.

[identity profile] posthumansmods.livejournal.com 2010-05-29 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Marvel is one of the few universes that has a plethora of AUs. But, in their essence, they are alternate universes rotating around one main reality. 616 is main canon and the large amount of people who will apply will be from that main line. Anyone they would interact with would be considered alternate universe to them. We can't label Bruce as OU because then things get sticky---he isn't the OU. Hence, he and any other Ultimates character will be slapped with an AU to their name.

If we allowed player created AUs to have their own slot, this would give the Marvel U---and any other fandom with built-in AUs---an unfair advantage. There could feasibly be three of most Marvel characters, but a fandom that has no canon AUs would be limited to just two. To keep things fair, we decided to lump the two AU classifications together. Yes, this is a little annoying because sometimes people will app a canon AU before you have the chance to unleash your super awesome AU idea onto the internet, but RP is, as ever, first come first serve.

[identity profile] sparklemagpie.livejournal.com 2010-05-29 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Aaaah, okay. Organizing it that way to level the playing field for other fandoms and not crowd too many of the same person in makes total sense.

Thanks muchly for the clarification. I am fully un-confuzzled now. <3

(And K sorry I missed you on aim, I'm pretty sure I fell asleep in front of my computer mid-tag last night and probably left stuff running unchecked. ^^; )

Hallo! This setting sounds like so much fun that you've finally succeeded in making me consider joining an online game! (Not that I have anything against them; I just usually tell myself that I have other things I ought to be doing.)

What is the protocol for pulling a character from a particular point in their canon prior to the endpoint they're currently at? I'm thinking of apping John Constantine, but I'd like to muck about with him directly after the "Empathy is the Enemy" storyline.

[identity profile] posthumansmods.livejournal.com 2010-06-10 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
You are completely free to choose which canon point you pull your character from. Note it in your app so that you---and we!---can keep track of it. If you ever want to update the point in their canon that they come from, you can have the character "disappear" from the game for a day or two and then return through the draw point with new memories.

Thanks!

HI, I'M STILL APPING.

I hope this isn't a dumb question, but are we allowed to recycle tags from threads for the prose sample? I have the worst writer's block for it and, at this point, would like to be lazy. lmfao. but I can just try to beat the block over its head if you prefer fresh samples.

[identity profile] posthumansmods.livejournal.com 2010-08-13 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
As long as the prose sample effectively shows your character's unique introspection and can be considered somewhat relevant if we squint, you're welcome to use previous writing samples.

oh, goodness, that was a fast reply.

thank you!

Just wondering, do you have a suggested word limit on these applications? I want to include some of my best, especially concerning the writing samples, but I know you guys are busy and I don't want to overwhelm you with self adulation here... I have this problem with resumes :S

[identity profile] posthumansmods.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
We would rather have more than less when it comes to applications. Your best work is exactly what we'd like to see, so don't worry about it.

Great to know! Thanks much.

If I wanted to re-app a character I'd dropped, how would I go about doing that?

[identity profile] posthumansmods.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
You can just re-send us the app you originally sent in.

I have a question. If I was apping a character who was an OU in his canon, but has a counterpart from another canon already in game who was an OU in their particular canon, which application would I be using?

[identity profile] posthumansmods.livejournal.com 2010-12-31 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Which canon is considered more mainstream? Or, which counterpart has more canon?
eppy: (STXI | Look into the air.)

[personal profile] eppy 2010-12-31 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
The canon we're talking is Supernatural, and I'm unfamiliar with the canon of the counterpart already in game, so I can't make the call on who has more of it.

[identity profile] posthumansmods.livejournal.com 2011-01-01 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
If the character is one that is a staple in many universes and not a fandom-specific one (say, an angel or god that has multiple fictional iterations), it would be another OU version. The takes on the character would be different enough that they are recognizable in name alone. Is that relevant to your question?

[identity profile] 1truepurring.livejournal.com 2011-05-03 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Just a couple questions concerning the samples!

Is there a general length I should shoot for in both third and first person? Also, is it possible to use a post from Dear Mun in the first-person sample, so long as it relates to the game or would it be better to just write a plausible post (not necessarily my intro post)?

If this was covered somewhere, then I'm obviously blind.

[identity profile] 1truepurring.livejournal.com 2011-05-03 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh, scratch that, I've got another question, I'm sorry. orz

Does it matter if/where we declare the canon point?

[identity profile] posthumansmods.livejournal.com 2011-05-04 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
Your samples need to reflect your grasp on the character, so less is not necessarily more. We would rather have a longer sample than a shorter one, but we do not have a word count that is set in stone. We would rather you not link us to a Dear Mun post, as we would prefer the sample to be your intro post.

Where you declare your canon point to be is up to you, but stick with it. There is a form and procedure for canon updating, if you choose to do so in the future.

[identity profile] 1truepurring.livejournal.com 2011-05-04 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Alright, thank you!

[identity profile] shobogan.livejournal.com 2011-09-06 12:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Hello! I was wondering...I've been considering apping Barbara Gordon. I know OU histories aren't required, but would it be all right if I wrote one anyway, just to clarify what canon I'm using? (...Comics.)

[identity profile] posthumansmods.livejournal.com 2011-09-06 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! We never discourage anyone doing more work than necessary.

[identity profile] halfarhys.livejournal.com 2011-10-26 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I plan on a canon-rape slightly modded original character from World of Darkness. Is this okay?

[identity profile] posthumansmods.livejournal.com 2011-10-27 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
We currently don't accept OC (original characters) into TPH.
