[ THE CHIPS: DNW ]

THE CHIPS: CAN IT GO?

So, you have been chipped. Painfully. Even so, some of you can and will try to get it out or screw with it...but there are consequences to things like this. For mod ease, we ask that you comment here when you want to do something that will destroy the chip---whether or not it is successful.

Copy/paste the form, fill it out, and ask questions if need be!

Things that can immediately put you on this list: natural immunities that would attack the chip (i.e. Tony Stark's Extremis), being able to go on fire (goddammit, you Torch people), or thick/impenetrable skin.

Further information (updated Sept 2010) found here.

As of June 13, 2011 chipping has been disabled. All chips have been rendered inert. More information is located here.

How would it be affected by shapeshifters? In Mystique's case, she can move around her molecules at will, and in Warren's case, his muscles AND skin became bigger, harder, and thick/durable when he 'shifts.

Also, they both have healing factors, and especially in Warren's case his body will force out anything that's invasive. Even healers can't heal him SO I HAVE BEEN A BIT CONFUSED about the way the chip would work/stay in both of these characters. Would it stay in and malfunction? Would it break? Could it be healed out? Could the shapeshifting destroy it? etc. etc.

And another question since I play two fliers: how far up in the sky can they fly before the chip would activate?

[personal profile] idateforsupper 2010-07-06 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
I have to echo what Kris said. Laura also has a VERY strong healing factor, so how would that be effected? She's able to heal bullets out of her skin, so yeah.

If not, she'll want to cut it out, and I'd like to work something out about that eventually.

[identity profile] posthumansmods.livejournal.com 2010-07-06 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
When the chip leaves the body/is affected, it will register as such. I think that it would survive Warren's shifting, but not Mystique's. It's durable because it was made to combat most known mutations---and in the Marvel U, everyone and their mother has a healing factor---but some of the more robust/odd ones can destroy it.

Tampering with it/shifting will initiate the electrocution, though. And I'd say that they could fly at their max heights before it triggers, but space is right out.

[identity profile] posthumansmods.livejournal.com 2010-07-06 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
As I said in the above response, it is made to combat healing factors since everyone and their dog in the MU has a healing factor. It digs in deeper if the healing factor kicks in...but cutting it out would destroy it, definitely.

Okay! If she were to cut it out, is there a specific moment you would like me to do it? Or is anytime workable?
ascending_angel: (*hee* MY EYES I CAN SEEEE)

[personal profile] ascending_angel 2010-07-06 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Okay great! I'm glad that's cleared up. Mystique has already been doing quite a bit of shapeshifting in her logs (and even on the network just to screw with people), so that was my main concern.

[identity profile] posthumansmods.livejournal.com 2010-07-06 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Anytime! It is totally up to you.

[identity profile] posthumansmods.livejournal.com 2010-07-06 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Glad to have cleared that up. That was my main reason for putting this post together. Added to the list!

[identity profile] germanblues.livejournal.com 2010-07-06 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Hrm. Sort of on the whole healing factor topic, I didn't really think mucha bout it before, but since the thread's here, I"ll ask. Schwarz' nanotechnology's made to recover, adapt, and evolve. It doesn't work so well on a personal basis (else he'd get denser the more he'd get smacked around. Or maybe even find a way to be water proof --THANKS WARREN), but wasn't sure if the chip, being a foreign object at all, would trigger the nanotech's programming. The most I could think of is it being attacked like a foreign body, but I'm not sure how resilient the chip would be to it being attached by other technology (as opposed to you saying it's resilient to healing factors).

Sorry if this makes no sense, but I have a headcold the size of Montana right now and I'm barely recalling my name. So yeah, a thought or three for mods to ponder!

Okay, so it has been established that people that can spontaneously combust can melt the chip. What about people that can survive being set on fire? Or people that could potentially melt/short/damage the chip with any other type of energy like/other than fire?

Karla here can absorb and redirect large amounts of energy. Her powers make it so that she can survive explosions, fires, and energy attacks (yet, for some reason, not bullets of knives).

Would she be able to short out the chip somehow by either overwhelming it with energy or somehow being set on fire? Or does it have to be a total molecular immolation to melt them?

[identity profile] posthumansmods.livejournal.com 2010-07-06 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
The reason the chip fails for fire-based people is that they are setting their actual molecules on fire. In the case of, say, Toro, he is fire when he is on fire. His lowest point of heat is 780 F, but can climb up to the heat-pulse of a nuclear warhead detonation. So, not a lot can survive that kind of heat/energy expenditure. I think that it would be possible for her to overwhelm or short out the chip, but it would take a great deal of energy. I might say that it would be possible during an attack, rather than something she could do on her own? Either way, yes, it is possible---but difficult.

[identity profile] posthumansmods.livejournal.com 2010-07-06 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
This seems like a similar problem to Tony Stark's---his internal nanotech disassembled the chip, mostly beyond his control. The chip is actually fairly resistant, but not against StarkTech (for future plot reasons). I would say that Schwarz would be able to take it apart if you'd like to pursue that.

[identity profile] germanblues.livejournal.com 2010-07-06 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Considering the abilities he has, it probably makes sense that it'd end up working like Tony's. If it's cool with you all, it's cool with me. He'd also be vaguely aware of it's lack of presence at most (He may be all androidy, but he really doesn't process things like one)

[personal profile] psychoanalyst 2010-07-06 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I figured, but I thought I would go ahead and ask anyway! Regardless, Karla won't be actively trying to break the chip. She wants to stay off that shitlist, and maybe even get on the Capekillers' good sides, if such a thing is even possible.

I'm not sure whether or not Karolina should be on here, considering her powers. She's not lighting herself on fire but...alien physiology and solar energy? I don't know, it's up to you guys.

I should have asked this sooner, but, do the capekillers or whoever, have fairly advanced weapons? Like armor piercing ammo and things that could hurt someone with semi-tough skin? Charis is not even close to Supergirl level of invulnerability, but she has thick/durable skin. It takes armor piercing rounds to hurt her. Is it cool to assume they have ways to hurt her/get the chip in?

[identity profile] germanblues.livejournal.com 2010-07-17 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Figured I'd go ahead and fill one of these out to make it an official heads up. ~.~

Circumstances of removal: Accidental/unknown; Nanite technology go omnomnom. Chip's at the very least been altered as the cells are regenerative/adapting.
Date:Whenever it was implanted; probably was detected as a foreign body and dealt with accordingly.
Would they fight the capekillers if they appeared: Depends on /how/ they appeared. If they showed up all peaceably like, he wouldn't throw the first hit... :P
Would you want this logged or handwaved?: Whichever.
